I’ve been sharing a lot of info with you about stress … and today I’ve got a song for you to listen to that is scientifically proven to help cut stress and reduce anxiety!
For centuries, people have used music to calm, soothe, inspire, celebrate, and more – and you can put the power of music to work for you, too!
If you’ve ever been to a spa or massage therapist, you already know the background music is a big part of the relaxation experience. And if you’ve gone to a sports event, you know that music plays a huge role in psyching up the crowd!
The best thing is, using music to help you unwind takes almost no effort at all – which is pretty awesome if you’ve had a stressful day and are exhausted.
So, what’s this magical song I’m talking about?
It’s called “Weightless,” by Marconi Union, and there’s a link to listen to it below.
The composers who created the song worked with sound therapists, where it was then evaluated by neuroscientists in the UK as part of a study to find out what kind of music best soothes stress.
Those scientists tested several different songs by having participants solve challenging puzzles as fast as possible while listening to music. While they were solving the puzzles, they were hooked to sensors to measure their blood pressure, breathing, and heart rate.
There were 10 different songs in the study, but “Weightless” stood out because it caused a 65% reduction in anxiety and a 35% reduction in participants’ BP/heart rate/etc. Amazing, right?
You can listen to the song here: https://youtu.be/UfcAVejslrU
In fact, there’s also a Spotify playlist with all 10 of the most relaxing songsused in the study. You can check it out for yourself:
Here’s a tip:Create a relaxing playlist that you can put on in the background when you’re doing breathing exercises or winding down for the day. You also can use the music to help kids, pets, or other loved ones relax.
Note: Don’t listen to it while driving, because you could find yourself nodding off to sleep!
